What we learned from making the swede

Prosumer: consumed + produced - 2 way process you have produced content to be consumed on the internet.

synergy- products promote each other/ mutually beneficial.

cross media convergence- like synergy but the products wouldn't exist without each other
e.g adele "Skyfall" song is a specially created media product.

convergent technologies- hugely important for communicating with audiences, gaining a fan base, engaging with fans etc.

Global audiences- we have the evidence!
can only do that because of internet.Due to the internet we are now able to see who is viewing our videos and from what country they are from.In our swede 100% of all our viewers were from the united kingdom which tells us that we did not have global distribution.

film industry has become more democratic because of technology!!!!!!

Props used in the swede

In our swede if paranormal activity we used only two props:
  • plain white mask
  • blanket/cape
We decided to use the two props because we wanted to keep the identity of the ghost a mystery up until the last seen.We also used a mask and cloak to make it clear that there was a ghost in our storyline.

Planning our swede Paranormal activity

Swede Outline

We are planning to make a swede of the movie paranormal activity. We are putting a slight twist on the original movie as it is going to be set in university dorms.

First scene-Arber is disturbed while sleeping by Hana and Marleyah. They claim that all the chairs have been knocked down in the dorm. They then go to check out the chairs with Arber but nothing is wrong.

Second scene-Arber, Hana and Marleyah all go back to their dorms. The ghost then watches over Arber while he is sleeping then does the same to Hana and Marleyah. Hana and Marleyah then begin to hear noises.Later on in the scene Arber starts to hear the noises as well.

Third scene-Arber, Hana and Marleyah then plan to catch the ghost. Arber, Hana and Marleyah catch the ghost and then realise that the ghost was in actual fact their friend Mustafa playing a prank on them.

Production,Distribution,Marketing and Exhibition in the film industry

When creating a movie there are alot of steps involved. You must go through production, distribution, marketing and exhibition to create a successful movie that can be shown in cinemas.

Production
  • The first stage is production this is where you first get the idea of for the film and you branch out from there.
  • After the initial idea has been thought of, the idea needs to be expanded on and more details need to be thought of so there is a more definite plan of where the movie will go. At this point the film makers hsould have divided there film into 4 sections( The beginning,The middle,The climax and the resolution.)
  • The next step is to storyboard the film out. This is so you know what you want your shots to look like and how they should be shot and any shooting techniques that you need to note down.
  • The next step is to assemble a crew for the movie, people with skills to film a movie and give their opinion on how it will best come out using the different shooting modes and techniques.
  • Auditions for castings have to take place in order for the right person to be found to play a character that has been created in the film.
  • The next step is to find the perfect location for where the film can be shot.If you cant find the perfect location then a studio can be used and then you should "dress the scene" to make it look like the setting you require.
  • The next step is to actually begin filming the movie.Movies do take a long time to feel so give yourself a realistic deadline for when it should be finished.
  • Edit the movie to make it easier to follow shorter and make it have more interesting effects.
  • Add sound effects and credits to make it more proffessional.
The production aspect of a film is one of the most important stages as it is crutial that a good story line is created and the creators have a clear idea of where they want the film to go.

Distribution

In order for a movie to go from the editing house to the audience it is transferred onto a dvd where it is projected on the cinema screen. A few months later the film may come out on dvd's for the audience to buy but only if the film was successful. Sometimes people record the film in the cinema and put it onto illegal dvd's and then sell it for cheap prices and they keep all the profit and none of the money goes to the film maker or producer.

Distributors may decide to release a film on one week-end as opposed to another because a film may have a certain relevance to a particular time and distributors may want the film to be released as close to that time as possible. Another reason is that Distributors may know that a similar film is coming out at the same time and to reduce competition they may wait for a time where there is less competition so more money will be made from the movie.

Marketing

ways in which films are advertised and marketed:

  • Trailers
  • Chat shows
  • Premiers of movies
  • Bus advertisements
  • Social media
  • Happy Meals
These are the are the 6 most poplar ways of advertising or marketing new films. Different audiences are sold films in different ways. For films that are aimed at young audiences bold and right colours are used to draw attention to them. Also telly advertisements will keep popping up on the telly with characters from the movie which will encourage the child to make their parents take them to watch it.

Exhibition

Exhibition is how the audience view your film in which there are many ways to do so like:
  • Movie theatres
  • TV
  • IPAD
  • DVD
Also if you watch the film illegally online for free, which is becoming more and more popular nowadays.

The Film value chain- is the process of what happens to the releases after they have been screened.

This weeks Film Releases

Over the last month alot of new films have been released. The odeon home page advertises all of the newly released films.

Films that have recently been released are;
  • White House Down
  • Diana
  • Thor-The dark world
  • Runner Runner
  • Filth
  • Insidious 2
  • Rush
Out of all of the films listed above less than half of these are British made films, the rest of the films listed above are big budget hollywood movies. This shows that america plays an important role in the film industry taking up over half the percentage of the whole film business.

Out of all the films listed above, most people in class said that they were going to watch "White house Down" and it stared well known american actors like Channing Tatum and jamie Foxx and had a story line that is quite relevant.Action films are proved to be one of the most popular genre of film so it is almost inevitable that most people would want to see that film.

Most people said that they weren't going to see the film "Filth" because it was a british film and they said that from previous experience they have learnt that british films are not the ones that interest them.

3D is a massive part of the film industry nowadays as for every £5.00 brought in by the film industry £1.00 is from 3D films. This is actually a very odd statistic considering none of the films released this week are 3D.This shows that 3D films have a massive price difference to normal films in order to make up for them not being in the cinema as regularly. Most people dont actually like 3D films as they make people feel "dizzy" and have claims of "not being 3D". 3D films are mostly for young children that want to go but a parent is needed which means that cineams are collecting twice the amount they would from just a teenager or someone able to go on their own.
